Clean-Up Day along the Thames
On 15th September Reading FoE took part in this year's International Coastal Clean-Up Day along the Thames in Reading (think global - act local) as part of the recently launched umbrella campaign 'Plastic Bags Are Rubbish!'
By litter-picking in Reading the group set an example in the local area, reducing the waste dumped around the Thames, and likewise raised awareness of global plastic pollution and the tonnes of plastic debris and rubbish that finds its way to the to the world's oceans from coasts, inland waterways and sewers, endangering hundreds of different species of marine wildlife such as birds, fish and turtles.
